Songs For A New World is a different kind of musical. There is no one, single narrative. Each song is its own story, its own mini-musical. In these stories, we meet people who reach that point where they must decide: do I keep going, do I stop, or do I go back? Their stories are about that one moment where the choice will make the difference. A poor teenage boy chooses between life on the streets and his basketball dream. An attention seeker chooses whether to jump off a building ledge or not, with media gathered below. Santa Claus has a (Jewish) wife who is considering divorce because he spends too much time with the reindeer and elves. A woman chooses between the men who love her and finding a man who can give her the world. The ghost of a returned soldier sings to his mother as his body is flown home. A teenage girl finds out she’s pregnant and decides what to do with her unborn child. These characters and many more populate the rich tapestry of songs in Songs For A New World.
