The Sydney Shakespeare Company, fresh from its highly acclaimed sold-out run of Hamlet on Fort Denison last year, will this spring tackle Shakespeare’s most romantic and poetic play in an intimate setting. A youthful, colourful work written early in Shakespeare’s career, Romeo & Juliet is packed full of romance, laughter, and swashbuckling, and delicately explores the societal and familial pressures on youth and its heartbreaking consequences.
The feud between the houses of Capulet and Mountague is old and knows no bounds. Capulet arranges a marriage for his daughter, Juliet; but when she meets Mountague’s son, Romeo, the children of these sworn enemies fall deeply in love – setting off a chain of events that will rock both their houses…
Directed by Artistic Director, Steven Hopley, this production will feature traditional costumes, and an epic cast of eighteen, including the fresh young talents of Emilia Stubbs Grigoriou as Juliet and Benjamin Winckle as Romeo.
