SIMON PHILLIPS, popular director of the Melbourne Theatre Company 2000–11 is today applauded for his direction of musicals.
His talk at the Creativity and Business Breakfast will cover the long road to world acclaim of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, of which he directed the stage version; the short road to failure of An Officer and a Gentleman, an adventurous joint US-Australian try-out for Broadway; his recent award-winning boutique musical Ladies in Black; and the forthcoming Dream Lover, which opens at the Lyric on 22 September, based on the life and music of Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee.
