Darkness be my friend
Hermia and Lysander are in love. But in Athens, that love is forbidden. Their romantic dreams are quickly becoming a nightmare. With the threat of exile or execution hanging over their heads, they escape to the one place that might be safe – the forest.
Into a dark wood of rough magic they go, but this is no fairytale. Helpmann Award-winning director Kip Williams (All My Sons) continues his bold interpretations of Shakespeare’s great plays with a striking new vision for A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This is not a Dream you’ve seen before, and it won’t be one you’ll soon forget.
A unique and provocative new production of a true classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Sydney Opera House promises to be a thrilling night at the theatre. With a strictly limited season, this is an event not to be missed.
On the stage are an extraordinary cast, including Rob Collins (ABC TV’s Cleverman), Honey Debelle (Arcadia), Brandon McClelland (The Golden Age) and Rose Riley as the four sides of a complicated love quadrangle. Josh McConville (Arcadia, Hay Fever) brings his comedic know-how to the boisterous character of Bottom, with the legendary Bruce Spence as one of his hilarious accomplices.
See you in the forest.
“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind,
And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.”
