Perth, Australia – Origin NYE today announce the first artists of the world-class line-up for Origin NYE 2016. Marking the tenth anniversary of the music festival, this year is set to be the biggest yet, bringing some of the best talent in urban and underground music to the most isolated city in the world.
Origin has evolved continually since its inception in 2007 transitioning from a modest Bass party at Belvoir Amphitheatre, into one of Perth’s best loved independent music festivals, with tickets selling out early in 2015. This year’s festival line-up continues an undeniable reputation for curating some of the biggest and cutting-edge names in the bass, electronic and underground music scene.
One of the newest and youngest faces in hip-hop, Chance the Rapper already has three mixtapes under his belt with this latest, Coloring Book is one of the strongest rap albums released this year – a gospel-laden musical melting pot. Origin NYE welcomes Chance the Rapper as part of his Magnificent Colouring world tour this year.
Chase & Status need no introduction as a festival headliner. Saul Milton and Will Kennard form the recording duo with their energetic brand of electronic music travelling across many genres from drum & bass, dubstep, breakbeat and grime. 2016 is set to be a massive year for them with their highly anticipated 4th album and returning to Origin NYE for their fifth time since 2008.
A true household name in grime joins the Origin line-up this year. Jme is the co-founder of cultural collective, Boy Better Know, Jme’s releases are 110% uncut grime, reflecting his complete lack of interest in compromise and dedication to the 140BPM beat.
Drum and Bass plays a huge role in the Origin festival’s heritage and addition pays homage to that with the Dutch trio Noisia returning for Origin NYE 2016 since performing the first festival in 2007. Having announced the release of their long awaited 2nd album Outer Edges this is going to be an exciting year for the “Kings of Drum and Bass”.
Completing the fast pace edge to the line-up, Origin NYE 2016 sees Australian beat magician What So Not join the line-up for Origin NYE 2016. Sure to burn a hole in the dance floor, the Sydney electronic artist has a string of large profile remixes behind him.
Origin NYE is a premier music festival experience of international standard, yet with a distinctly Perth heart, and history. Returning to the rolling greens and spacious Claremont Showgrounds on 31 December, the 10th Origin NYE festival is set to be the biggest yet.
